Become a Brayton Library Volunteer

2025-2026 Library Duty Volunteer Details:

Volunteering in the Brayton Library is a wonderful way to become more involved in your child’s
school experience. It’s a chance to support our librarian, Ms. Kaczynski, enrich the library
experience for Brayton students, and help keep the library running smoothly.

Brayton Library Volunteers are honorary librarians who commit to one dedicated time slot each
week, with the school year divided into two sessions. Each shift runs about an hour to an hour
and a half. Volunteer responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

- Checking in returned books
- Re-shelving books
- Helping children select books
- Checking out books
- Creating and updating holiday displays
- And more!

Because volunteers are relied upon weekly, available slots are limited and will be assigned
based on questionnaire responses.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I'M INTERESTED?
Once you’ve reviewed the “Things to Consider” section below and are confident you can commit
to a weekly slot, please complete the signup questionnaire by Monday, 9/8/2025, at 11:59pm.
Late forms will only be considered if additional volunteers are needed.

THINGS TO CONSIDER:

Parents may NOT be assigned to work during their child’s library class.
There will be two sessions:

  • Session 1: 9/22/25 – 1/23/26 (seven volunteers)
  • Session 2: 1/26/25 – 5/29/26 (eight volunteers)

Volunteers selected for each session will be assigned a weekly day and time based on
questionnaire feedback. We kindly ask that everyone make their best effort to attend
consistently. There will be no aide in the library this year, so volunteer support is more
important than ever.

A thorough training session will be provided, along with opportunities to shadow an
experienced volunteer. Please indicate which training session works best for you on the
questionnaire.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN I’M SCHEDULED?
Selected volunteers will receive an email before the training sessions with their assigned day
and time. Those not placed are encouraged to apply again next year.

It cannot be overstated how vital Brayton Library Volunteers are to the smooth operation of the
library. We deeply appreciate the enthusiasm and interest this program always receives — it
truly is one of the best ways to make a hands-on difference at school!
